Strong Pitching, Timely Hits Lead Freshman Eagles Over Lowell

The Hudsonville Freshman Eagles made the most of their lone opportunity Monday night, defeating Lowell 6-3 after a schedule change limited the planned doubleheader to just one six inning game. Hudsonville wasted no time getting on the board, using a two-out rally in the first inning to grab early momentum. Ty Reibel sparked the inning with a single, and Gavin Workman followed with a clutch double to drive in the game’s first run and give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Despite some defensive struggles that included three errors, Hudsonville came up with timely plays when it mattered most. One of the biggest moments came in the second inning, when Ryan Floriana delivered a key two-out play at second base, recording a 4-3 putout to strand two runners and preserve the lead. The Eagles extended their advantage in the third inning through a combination of aggressive baserunning and situational hitting. Tyler Reibel put the ball in play to bring in a run, Workman added another base hit, and Ty Reibel later scored on a wild pitch to build a multi-run cushion. On the mound, Hudsonville’s pitching duo set the tone. Landon Meduna was dominant in his start, allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings while striking out six. Micah McPhaul took over in relief and closed the door, working three innings with three strikeouts and no earned runs to secure the win. Offensively, the middle of the lineup proved difficult to contain. Brady Buchanan and Gavin Workman each drove in two runs, with Workman leading the way at the plate by going 2-for-2 and reaching base again after being hit by a pitch. He also played a key role defensively behind the plate. Lowell made things interesting in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 4-2, but Hudsonville responded immediately with another two-out rally. A pinch-hit single by Trenton Ratuszny jumpstarted the inning, followed by a walk to Reibel and a hit-by-pitch to Workman. Buchanan then delivered the big blow with a two-run double, providing crucial insurance and sealing the 6-3 victory. Hudsonville will look to carry that momentum into their next matchup, as they are scheduled to host Rockford for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
