Hudsonville JV Baseball split a doubleheader with Mattawan on Tuesday, dropping Game 1 before bouncing back to take Game 2. In Game 1, the Eagles made a late push but came up just short in a 5-4 loss. Brady Miller drove in a run, while Kayden Rodriguez had a strong day at the plate with two hits and a run scored. Luke Uhlig and Aiden Straus each added an RBI, with Straus coming through with a big hit. Kaden Condon also crossed the plate for Hudsonville. Jack Arens got the start on the mound, throwing 3 and 2/3 innings and allowing just 2 runs while striking out five. Kaden Condon and James Brock came in out of the bullpen to finish things off, giving the Eagles a chance to rally late, but they couldn’t quite complete the comeback. Hudsonville responded in Game 2 with a 2-1 win behind a dominant performance from Graham Rosema. Rosema was in control all game, going 5 innings and allowing just 1 hit while keeping Mattawan off the scoreboard. Carson Weemhoff came in to close things out and secure the win. The defense stepped up in a big way, highlighted by Luke Uhlig, who made three straight plays in center field to shut the door in the top of the seventh. At the plate, Jack Arens led the way with a hit and an RBI, while Luke Uhlig and Aiden Straus each added a hit. It was a complete team effort, with strong pitching and solid defense leading Hudsonville to the win. The Eagles will be back in action on the road Thursday, April 16th.
