Hudsonville JV Baseball came away with a split in the first two games of a three-game series against Grandville, setting up a "winner take all" matchup later this week. Game one was highlighted by a strong performance on the mound from Jack Arens. Arens threw four solid innings, striking out six and keeping Hudsonville in the game from the start. Luke Pennington came in out of the bullpen and continued that momentum, going three innings and adding four strikeouts of his own. Arens also led the way offensively in game one, picking up two hits and putting together a strong all-around performance. In game two, Hudsonville bounced back in a big way behind another impressive showing from their pitching staff and a much more explosive day at the plate. Luke Uhlig got the start and was sharp, going five innings while racking up eight strikeouts. Kaden Condon and Kayden Rodriguez each came in for an inning of relief, both recording a strikeout to help close things out. Offensively, Hudsonville was rolling. Uhlig, Rodriguez, Jack Arens, and Kaden Condon all contributed with hits, while Graham Rosema led the charge with three hits on the day. Arens had a huge game at the plate, blasting a home run and adding a triple to give the Eagles a big spark. The lineup did a great job executing situational baseball as well, with multiple players getting bunts down throughout the game. That execution allowed Hudsonville to stay aggressive on the base paths and consistently put pressure on Grandville’s defense. RBIs came from Arens, Rosema, Brady Miller, and Condon, while Rodriguez drove in two to cap off a strong offensive performance. With the series now even, Hudsonville will head to Grandville on Thursday looking to take the final game and secure the series win.
