Hudsonville JV Baseball captured the championship at the Hudsonville JV Invite on Saturday, putting together two impressive wins over Grand Ledge and Portage Northern to take home the tournament title. In the opening game against Grand Ledge, the Eagles battled in a tight contest before breaking through in the sixth inning with three clutch runs to pull away. Hudsonville’s offense was led by James Brock, who turned in a huge performance with four RBIs. Skyler Slotman and Brock each collected two hits, while Kayden Rodriguez and Jack Arens added one hit apiece. Micah McPhaul and Aiden Straus also drove in runs as the Eagles came through with timely hitting when it mattered most. On the mound, Skyler Slotman gave Hudsonville a strong start, tossing four innings while allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Luke Uhlig took over in relief and was just as sharp, throwing three innings with four strikeouts to close out the win. Behind the strong pitching, Hudsonville played excellent defense all game and advanced to the championship. In the title game against a talented Portage Northern squad, Hudsonville once again delivered in the late innings. Locked in a 2–2 tie entering the sixth, the Eagles exploded for seven runs in the frame to break the game open and secure a 9–2 victory. Luke Uhlig led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Kayden Rodriguez, Micah McPhaul, Brady Miller, and Carson Weemhoff each added hits. McPhaul and Miller both drove in two runs, and Skyler Slotman added an RBI as well. Hudsonville’s pitching and defense were outstanding throughout the championship game, shutting down a dangerous Portage Northern lineup and limiting scoring chances all afternoon. It was a complete team effort from Hudsonville across both games, as the Eagles combined strong pitching, solid defense, and timely offense to earn the tournament championship on their home field. The invite title is another strong early-season statement for a Hudsonville JV team that continues to build momentum. Hudsonville will resume play on Monday against Loy Norrix in a doubleheader at home.
