The Hudsonville girls swim and dive team turned in a balanced performance Tuesday night in their tri-meet against Jenison and Northview, with standout swims at the top and contributions throughout the lineup. Sophomore Brianne Butler highlighted the evening with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:59.02), a performance that qualified her for the Division 1 state meet. She later added a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:29.42). Both freestyle relays also booked their trips to the state meet. The 200 free relay of Nora VanEerden, Lydia Oosterbaan, Butler, and Taylor Vaiana finished second in 1:43.06, while the 400 free relay of Butler, Vaiana, Kayla Bolhuis, and Grace Van De Burg earned runner-up honors in 3:50.60, also under the qualifying mark. Hudsonville showed plenty of depth in individual events throughout the meet : Grace Van De Burg was runner-up in the 200 IM (2:23.57) and added a third-place finish in the 100 free (58.69). Nora VanEerden picked up a pair of second-place swims in the 100 butterfly (1:03.46) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.37). Aaliyah Bukvic earned 2nd in the 100 backstroke (1:06.63) and also helped Hudsonville’s medley relay early in the meet. In sprint events, Lydia Oosterbaan placed 2nd in the 50 free (26.62), with Makenzie Milward (27.63) and Josie Horlings (27.73) close behind. Katelyn Wiles (28.41) and Klara Wimpee (28.60) added more depth with strong exhibition times. Bailey Bakker (59.89) cracked the top five in the 100 free, while Milward (1:01.42) and Wiles (1:00.92) swam well.. The distance crew of Vaiana (2:06.48, 200 free; 5:29.75, 500 free) and Bolhuis (2:07.84, 200 free; 5:41.91, 500 free) added valuable scoring swims. In diving, seniors Sydney Davidson (163.00) and Avery Minder (146.00) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out Hudsonville’s point-scoring effort on the boards. Hudsonville also displayed depth across relays, with the B 200 free relay (Horlings, Milward, Wiles, Bolhuis – 1:51.37) placing third, and multiple exhibition quartets gaining valuable experience. While Jenison collected most of the top spots on the night, Hudsonville’s combination of front-line swims from Butler, Van De Burg, and VanEerden, plus a wide base of contributors across events, showed the team’s overall strength. The Eagles now look ahead to the next stretch of dual meets and midseason competition with three new Division 1 qualifying swims already secured.
